Whether you’re trying to get through midterms, battling a quarter-life crisis or trying to figure out how to not go bankrupt, it's probably a safe bet to assume that you may have some stress in your life. We all need ways to put our stress to the side and appreciate life sometimes. What I am really trying to say is: we all need more puppies in our lives. So without further ado, here is a list of my favorite kinds of puppies. Not only are these pups adorable, but their temperaments have a way of putting a huge smile on my face. As a freelance dog-walker, I’ve spent much of my time with different breeds, and time and time again I always find that these breeds are the sweetest, cutest, and most loving dogs around.
6. Catahoulas: When I first began walking dogs, my first client was a beautiful Catahoula rescued from the North Cascades National Park in Washington. He was mature, friendly, gorgeous and intelligent. If anything, he was the smartest dog I have ever come across in my life. He would sit in my lap in the car (despite being 60 pounds), and lick my face every time I kissed the top of his head. After a few weeks, he was more of a friend than a dog. As a puppy, he certainly turned heads.
5. Swiss Mountain Dogs: These guys have it all: sweet faces, smiley and slobbery attitudes and best of all, GIGANTIC paws. Up until they turn six months or so, their paws are demonstrably too big for their bodies. It is one of the cuter things I’ve seen in my life.
3. Shiba Inus: These little guys crack me up. There is no personality quite like that of a Shiba Inu. They look at you with a “I’m smarter than you, but I still love you,” kind of look. Condescending to some, adorable to me. Shiba Inus are generally completely indifferent to just about everything going on around them (in the cutest way possible), making them an awesome breed to own as a college student.
2. Corgis: Corgis hold a special place in my heart. The disposition of a Corgi reminds me of that sweet kid you used to baby sit who would sit there and peacefully color while occasionally looking up with a goofy smile and asking an adorable question like, “Where does blue come from?” or something random like that. Every time I see a Corgi, I will always go out of my way to play with it. Some can be shy, but most are always so excited to make a new friend.
1. Siberian Huskies: I admit, I’m a tad biased when it comes to Siberian Huskies. When I was two years old, my first family dog was a Siberian. She moved with us from England to Seattle and we grew up together. We slept together, ate together, read together and watched TV together. I will always truly believe that Siberian Huskies are the best friend a person can have. Although she passed away about a year ago, I recently adopted a new Siberian and she may be the most beautiful thing in the world. At least I think so. So instead of a generic picture of a Husky puppy, enjoy these pictures of my pup and next time you’re thinking of getting a dog, think about my baby girl. You won’t regret it.
