To the person who knows me better than I know myself,
Hey,
It feels a little weird, writing this letter to you, since I’m texting you as I write it, but I thought you deserved a public thank you.
Since we met in middle school, it was you and I against the world, taking awful selfies full of braces, duck faces and peace signs. You were there for everything: when I got my driver’s license, when I took my bow in my final high school play, when I decided where I was going to college and you were there when I graduated high school. I remember obsessing over first kisses, assignments for school, jobs, family. Whatever the problem was, you were there.
I never needed to explain myself because you always understood. You laughed with me at stupid movies at 2 a.m. and you cried with me when a boy broke my heart. As the tears streamed down my face, you helped me see my worth and you made me smile when that was the last thing I felt like doing.
You also never fail to inspire and motivate me. Your determination is one for the books and a quality I’ve always admired. As I watch you study and work hard to achieve your dreams, it makes me want to achieve mine.
Now that we’re in college, the only thing that’s different is that the distance between us. I miss you terrible but I know that you’re never far away. Whether I’m on the other side of the couch, the country or the world, I know you will always be there. I am so proud to be your friend and I thank my lucky stars everyday that they gave me you.
Infinitely grateful for you, everything you are and everything you have made me.
All my love,
Your other half
