If you love at least four cups of coffee a day, like I do, you'll want to hear about these benefits to our beloved addiction.
Coffee (kôfē) noun: 1) a drink made from the roasted and ground seeds of a tropical shrub, served hot or iced. 2) The closest thing you can get to tasting the tears of Jesus.
I have a feeling I'm not alone on this habit and the significance of these facts will make you feel a lot better about your addiction.
1. Drinking coffee increases your energy levels due to the caffeine.
Great when you need a pick me up. The caffeine also helps your brain power. Caffeine blocks a neurotransmitter called adenosine in your brain which restricts the amount of your firing neurons like dopamine and norepinephrine.
Also, this increase in energy increases your physical performance by increasing your adrenaline levels and destroy fat tissues. Drink coffee before heading to the gym to intensify your workout. Burning fat? Sign me up! I rather continue this addiction than go in for that trendy liquid cleanse.
2. Drinking coffee can decrease your risk for type II diabetes.
People who drink the most coffee have a 23 to 50 percent lower risk of getting this disease, studies have shown. Excuse me, please hit me up with another cup of coffee, my sugar addiction is the next problem I have to tackle, so this will help prevent any risks I’ll face in the future.
3. Coffee can protect you from Alzheimer’s disease.
@meredithgrey. HELLLOOOOO MER AND MAGGIE?! Why was this never mentioned in "Grey's"? Shonda Rhymes better start doing some research and realize that drinking coffee lowered the risk by 65 percent. Drinking coffee has also been linked to reducing the risk of melanoma (good to know during this sunny season).
4. Drinking coffee can make you happier.
Who doesn’t like being happy? Don’t answer that. But seriously, think about how sad you always are sitting in class. Imagine if you started showing up with a smile on your face to those 8 a.m. classes? Mind = blown. For true coffee addicts, drinking four or more cups of coffee a day can lower the risk of depression by 20 percent as well.
5. Drinking coffee may help you live longer.
OKAY! I’M ALL ABOUT SEEING THE WORLD END! Seriously, I want to be the oldest women alive one day. Drinking coffee was associated with a 20 percent lower risk of death in men and a 26 percent lower risk of death in women, over a period of 18 to 24 years, two large studies have shown. Well, I’m already five years in, so why not go for 19 more?
So, to all my fellow coffee lovers, I hope you never feel guilty again when reaching for that seventh coffee.
