Belmont Sororities As Hogwarts Houses

Everyone has a house. Which one is yours?

Belmont has four sororities. Hogwarts has four houses. Coincidence? I think not.

Belmont is a truly magical place, just like Hogwarts and the sororities have a tight Panhellenic love, similar to the love the houses share. Belmont’s sororities are hard to sort, as each woman is unique and special on their own. After careful consideration and observation, I have categorized the four sororities into each Hogwarts house, based on some of their most apparent and best qualities. And let's be real, Bob Fisher would look great with Dumbledore’s beard. So let's take a look at Harry Potter and Belmont University Greek life.

Phi Mu -- Slytherin

Slytherins are known for being cunning and ambitious. They look after their own and Pottermore, J.K. Rowling’s online Wizarding World, describes it as the “coolest and edgiest house in the school." They’re always striving to be the best, but they will never leave their own to be the best.

Phi Mu’s at Belmont share a lot of these traits with Slytherin. They’re cool and put together and at first glance they’re often a little intimidating but the second you get to know them, you realize they are some of the most driven and loyal people you’ll ever know. They're insanely driven about everything they do and strive, and often achieve success (just watch their greek singing performance from last year for reference). Phi Mu’s are always striving to be the best versions of themselves and help all those around them to do the same.

Kappa Alpha Theta -- Ravenclaw

Ravenclaws are known for their wisdom, cleverness, and wit. They are also known for being a little quirky and creative. They’re accepting and encourage people to be who they are and say what they feel. Pottermore describes them as the “cleverest, quirkiest and most interesting house at Hogwarts." They’re all in this together, and will always be there to pick each other up.

Kappa Alpha Theta fits this description very well! They’re extremely creative. Their Greek Sing routines and Bid Day ideas are always top of the line. They’re so funny -- some of the funniest people on campus. Theta’s are never afraid to be themselves and encourage everyone around them to be their true selves. They are one of the most academic groups on campus -- you can always count on them to help you for a test or make you laugh during a study break. For being the newest sorority on campus, their creativity and intelligence have already made an such amazing mark.

Alpha Sigma Tau -- Gryffindor

Gryffindors are brave and faithful. They’re known for their superb athletic skills and being extremely bold. They’re determined and always the first to defend their friends. Pottermore describes them as wizards who are “known for their nerve, chivalry, and daring." They deal with things hands on and are always fair. They’re passionate, proud and love to be around other people.

As a member of Alpha Sigma Tau, I can attest that all these adjectives are extremely accurate. AST’s are the first ones to volunteer to do anything. Whether it’s the Bruin Cup, Intermural games or Greek Week -- they love to compete. They make big and bold choices and will do absolutely anything to defend their sisters. They're 100 percent themselves 100 percent of the time because they are proud of who they are. AST’s are extremely passionate -- which is evident by their involvement and leadership roles on campus. They absolutely love to be around others. Whether you want to take a spontaneous trip to Holiday World, or just have someone to talk to, you can always count on an AST.

Alpha Gamma Delta -- Hufflepuff

Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil. They are known for being trustworthy, loyal and hardworking. Pottermore describes them as “the friendliest, most decent and most tenacious house of them all.” They will do anything for their friends, they are so proud of their own and they have hearts of gold, just like their house color.

Alpha Gam’s perfectly match this description. Each one you encounter is even friendlier than the last. Every day you know you will see an Alpha Gam proudly wearing her letters and pearls. They’re so hard working, they’re some of the most successful and involved people on campus and they are always willing to help with anything you might need. You can always see them sitting together, truly enjoying each others company. They have an infinite amount of love to give. Alpha Gam’s really do have hearts of gold.

Belmont sorority women are hard to categorize -- although we all belong to different “houses” we all share one thing. Magic. The love and sisterhood we share within our groups and with each other creates true magic. Just like J.K. Rowling said “Hogwarts (or Belmont Greek life) will always be there to welcome you home.”
