When was the last time you realized how exceptional you are? I’m serious, when was the last time that you took a second to realize how cool and blessed you are? Well, let me tell you, for me it’s been a while. It’s different when we live at home and we constantly have people telling us how smart and how proud they are of us. Then college hits, and if you’ve decided to live just shy of four hours from home, it’s hard to hear the words of encouragement like you used to.
Today I’m challenging you to take a second and realize how awesome you are. Do you believe in yourself? If you answered no, or hesitated at all, then you just have to keep on reading.
As for me, I didn’t realize it again until my family sent me flowers in the middle of all of my finals. I cried as I was reading the card (I’m a huge card fanatic). My mother had told the florist to write: “Congratulations to the end of the year. So proud of your hard work and dedication. We love you, Mom, Dad, Morgan, and Adam.”
Now, I’m not saying that we have to get flowers sent to us to make us cry to make us realize how blessed that we are. We don’t have to get flowers sent to us to make us thankful for our lives. Anything can make us feel blessed -- buying someone’s drink behind us in Starbucks, having the waitress not charge us a side salad on our ticket, or getting to celebrate someone’s special day.
But in addition to our good experiences, we have to start believing in ourselves and having faith that we can push. When I say push, we have to push harder than all of the struggles that the world is putting on us. We have to be resilience: to spring back into shape, to recover quickly from difficulties.
We have to believe in ourselves. We have to realize that, as crazy as life is, everything is because we’ve been so blessed. It’s written in Psalms 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
It's so refreshing for me to realize that even when I don’t feel like I can conquer the world, that I can have a best friends that I can read the word from. God loves us all and he wants you to love yourself also. So today I challenge you, get out a piece of paper. Write down three to five things remind you of how truly incredible you are. Include things that make you feel proud of yourself, beautiful even. Remember how fabulous you are because we are wonderfully made. And have an extra special (fabulous) day.
