Admittedly, growing up as the youngest sibling definitely has its perks, but regardless of what your older siblings might think, being the youngest is not all roses. Like everything in life, it had its ups and downs. Here are five things every youngest sibling knows to be true.
1. You had it easier.
Undoubtedly, this was one of the biggest perks to being the youngest. Your oldest sibling took the worst of it living under a strict regime of limited freedoms and rigorously enforced curfews. Thanks to them, you found yourself coasting through life with a freedom of mobility your siblings could have only wished for.
2. You were handed the cheat sheet to life.
Whether it was advice on what class to take and what teachers to avoid, your older brother or sister was always there to help you navigate the minefield of school. Learning from their blunders, you were able to breeze through school with the wisdom of seasoned professionals at your side.
3. You were always getting compared to your older siblings.
On the flip side of following your sibling in school, you found yourself constantly compared to them. Living in their shadow was never easy, and you undoubtedly heard "you're so-and-so's little sister/brother right?!" at least once a week.
4. Your siblings are the reason you have trust issues.
Do you remember when your sister would promise to give you $1 if you would bring her a soda, or play with her hair? Yeah, that is why, to this day, when someone gives you free food, you find yourself questioning whether it was dropped on the floor.
5. You will always be considered the baby of the family.
No matter how old you get, being the youngest, you will always be seen as the baby of the family. While being treated as a perpetual child may not always be fun, you can rest easy knowing your siblings will always be there to protect you.
