“I wish I had a twin.” “You’re so lucky that there are two of you!” “Tell me, are you identical twins?”
Do you know how annoying it is to hear about twins when you are one? Think of it this way, the questions are as annoying as the birds in “Finding Nemo,” asking the same thing over and over until you run for the hills. Here’s a fact for all the non-twins out there, stop asking! Really, we twins would love it if instead of bombarding us with stupid questions that you would just say "Cool," and move on with your day.
And for the love of all that is chocolatey and delicious, stop asking if twins can feel the other’s pain. It doesn’t work that way! No matter how hard you hit my twin, I swear to you, I cannot feel it. I don’t even know where that came from. Also, there is no such thing as reading each other’s mind, or at least, not for my twin and me. We do sync up really well with each other though. So that’s kind of like mind reading, but you can do that with anybody if you have known them long enough.
So, now that I’ve had the chance to clear up some of that information, I’ll be more than happy to tell you about the ups and downs that come with being a twin. I guess I’ll start with the bad parts of being a twin. First of all, whoever is the older twin will never let the younger twin forget it. It doesn’t matter if it’s as little as a two minute age difference, the label of "baby sibling" will always be there. I would know, my twin holds his two-minute superiority over me like a trophy. Also, regardless of whether you are a boy-girl twin or same gendered twins, everyone assumes that you are always together. It’s like an annoying way for people to decide that twins aren’t individuals, but a forever pair.
There are some good things about being a twin; for example, your twin is like a best friend from birth...unless you two absolutely hate each other, in which cas good luck with that. Also, nerve-racking things like your first day of school are a little easier because your twin is going through the stress with you. They are the life-long friend that you've always had and a great partner in crime... Not literal crime though, it’s just a phrase! Obey the law!
What twins really come down to though, are that they are just two people who share a birthday. They aren’t connected at the hip..unless they might be Siamese twins...Anyway, twins really are great. I know that I give my twin hell all the time, and he dishes it back, but we will always have each other’s backs. It’s not complicated, or supernatural, or some great phenomenon. It’s my brother and me.
