Being single in college is both a blessing and a curse.
Everyone wants to know why you aren’t in a relationship and when you’re going
to get a boyfriend. This gets pretty annoying pretty quick, but relationships
are super time-consuming and require a bit of work so why would you want to
subject yourself to that if you being single has so many perks? There
are tons of benefits to staying single that it shouldn’t be looked on as a bad
thing. And I’m here to tell you why being single is not awful.
There is no need to get dressed up
To start, not being in a relationship means there is never a need to get up and get dressed and put on makeup just to go to dinner. You aren’t even obligated to get out of bed if you don’t want to. And if your friends want to go somewhere with you, then you can wear whatever since you aren’t trying to impress anyone.
All the money you get to save
You don’t have to worry about buying anyone gifts or splitting the bill so instead you can save all that money for other things in life. Now instead of worrying about buying a perfect outfit for a date that money can go towards a pizza and a bottle of wine.
You don’t have to share anything
This is probably the best part about being single. Everyone complains about their significant other taking up too much space in the bed or stealing their food, well that never happens when you’re single. You know that when you go to the get something it will be always there and that you’re not constantly cleaning up after someone else too. And not sharing anything includes not having to share your time. When in college and balancing everything there is already so little time to spare and if you add in someone else that you need to spend a decent amount of your day with can really make life hard. Just staying single with free time definitely sounds better.
No fighting over what to watch
Between Netflix and just whatever is on television, it can be a struggle on agreeing on what to watch. But when you are single you just get to choose and no one is going to complain about it or say anything. Also you can decide to pull an all-nighter watching a show without any regrets about keeping someone else awake.
You just get to be you
This is something a lot of people forget to do in their college years and it makes life a little harder when you’re attached at the hip to someone. Dating is like a game of impressing and not disappointing people so are you truly being yourself? Well just staying single and figuring out who you are is needed and an important part of life that you shouldn’t forget.
Being single is definitely something that I'm enjoying and don't plan to change for a few years, but whether you are single or in a relationship, just remember to do whatever makes you happy.
