For as long as I can remember, Halloween has always freaked me out just a little bit. I’m sorry, but the thought of people dressed up as murderers, monsters, or, worst of all, clowns is just plain out weird. I’ve never really liked being scared into a heart attack for fun, and if you think I’m going into some haunted barn or trail then you’re insane. I know I’m not the only one who isn’t so pumped about being chased by chainsaws down a path covered in blood.
Being an anti-Halloweenian isn’t so easy to admit sometimes. Most of the time, we are seen as big babies, or even worse, we experience things that terrify us back into our homes because people try to “change our mind”. Uh-uh. Sorry. Not gonna happen. At the end of every October, we are left in a constant state of paranoia. We don’t know if someone jumping out of us is a real murderer or if they’re just some weirdo who wants to scare us for fun. It’s weird. It’s strange. It’s Halloween.
For us, Halloween is about watching our favorite childhood movies, Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Twitches, Casper the FRIENDLY Ghost, and the rest of the not-so-scary movies we watched growing up. We like to dress up as silly things, like Skittles or M&M’s and wait around the house to see all the cute kids come by Trick-Or-Treating. Sometimes, you’ll find groups of us at costume parties laughing and having fun in the non-scary environment.
When it comes down to it, don’t hate us because we won’t go out on your terrifying adventures, and we won’t hate you for trying to drag us out on them. Don’t call us babies, and we won’t call you psychos. Don’t jump out at us in scary masks, and we won’t hit you out of reflex. Let’s just love each other, have fun, and be safe.
We’re all people, even if ya’ll do like weird stuff.
