There are several occurrences throughout many young women's lives when they think to themselves, “I will never turn out like my mom.” Because, at the time, the things your mom say and do may not make sense. Until you get older, of course. There are many things that make me my own person, but, as I grow older and start to mold into who I am, I don’t think that there would be a more honorable person to turn out like than my mom.
There are so many characteristics of my mom that I can only hope to pull off as well as her, but to name a few:
Moms Are Beautiful
Moms always look good whether they are dressed up for Christmas service, wearing your school spirit wear or lying around in their pajamas. They always seem to pull things off and no matter what, you always envy how they can get their eyeliner perfect and their hair to fall the right way. I suppose they have had years of practice, but my jealousy continues.
Moms Have Wisdom
One of my mom’s favorite lines is “hindsight’s always 20/20." This, along with her 75 other lines of advice, gives me the impression that she may actually know what she is talking about most of the time. Although I hate to admit it, moms have been there and know things and I can only hope to pass onto my kids. My mom gave me the advice to get me through the good and bad times in my life.
Moms Are Strong
When I write “strong,” I don’t actually mean physical strength for moms. Although, you should never question their physical strength because you may be surprised; I know from personal experience. But moms have this sort of strength that is quite unexplainable, but admirable. The emotional and mental strength to take care of kids and keep your life together is enough to amaze me. Kudos to you, Mom.
Moms Love to Have Fun
Although us young people like to think that our parents' ideal Friday night is watching movies at home, this isn’t always the case. They love to sit and watch movies sometimes, but, if they have the chance, they also like to drink a vodka-tonic and listen to Kid Rock with their friends (I know it’s not just my mom). Sometimes they like to let loose and have fun with their friends too, and, after all they do, I say they deserve it. Just because they have kids doesn’t mean they don’t know how to have fun, am I right?
And to top off one of my favorite qualities of moms:
Moms Are Your Biggest Fan
Moms are so proud of you and all that you do. They love telling their friends and family about all of things you have accomplished. They are so proud of you and they are always there to cheer you on. Make sure to give an extra “thank you” to your mom for being the one to drive you to practices, spending their day off going on a college visit for you or going the extra mile to make you happy. They will always be your best support system.
Moms are awesome people, and they do so much. All in all, I would be blessed to become half the woman my mom is. There is so much to admire about our moms, and sometimes we forget that. So I think it may be one of the best compliments for someone to say, “You are just like your mom.”
I sure hope that I am.
