Let me paint a picture for you all and keep in mind that any story about me is absolutely, embarrassingly true. So it's my first day of my internship and the alarm clock goes off at least 100 times before I wake up only ten minutes before my job starts. I slide out of bed, running, shove my toothbrush into my mouth with a glob of toothpaste and proceed to put on the only clothes I could find in my hot mess of a room. I am practically eating breakfast whilst brushing my teeth. Let us not forget that I will be turning my Odyssey article in late (again) in the next two hours during my lunch break. To top off being 15 minutes late to work, I hadn't showered and I gave myself a bloody nose from jamming too hard in the car. Yes, I am a total, completely weird unusual crazy hot mess at a temperature that could burn your hand off if you even get it within a mile radius. Let me tell you, I couldn't love being one more than anything in this world.
Chuck Bass, in my humble opinion, once famously said this, "Do you ever feel like our whole lives have been planned out for us? That we're just gonna end up like our parents?"
Hell yeah, I totally think that people expect our lives to be planned to the T. I love my passion planner, I love looking forward to things in life, but I love not knowing what is going to happen next or what fun adventures I'm going to embark, whether that is trying to toss rocks at my roommate's third floor bedroom window because I locked myself out or I'm getting hit on by a hot Olympian in the Bahamas and turning his entitled prick butt down.
Life is crazy AF and that is awesome. What a gift, guys, what a gift to have nothing go perfectly and everything is right. I once read a psychology article that people who are always late are much more optimistic and happy. I agree. I also agree that a messy life is crazy. My heart was shattered when I turned down being a Student Orientation Guide again, because I thought I would be studying abroad, but instead my school decided they didn't like the program I wanted. Instead of moping and feeling angry, I realized how awesome it is to look on the bright side of not having my way or what I want. Heck, I don't even know where I'll be in the next week. Maybe Europe, maybe Netflix binging, who knows?
If someone tells you that you need to get your sh!t together, they are straight up lyin' to your face. You do not need it together, the only thing that you have to do is die. Dark, I know, I know, but let's be real. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to have it together or even do what everyone says. If we're being realistic, nothing is going to go according to plan, I'm sorry. Blair Waldorf wanted to go to Yale, didn't she? Nate was the one, wasn't he? Checkmate. Setting expectation sucks, honestly.
Food for thought, imagine if we didn't plan for our goals to go crazy or change, we would never know what happiness is. How can one be happy if they live their life by only one version of their goals? Plan for the worst, find new ways to your goals, make sure you're ready for your goals to change. Most importantly, be a hot mess and love it.
I know everyone jokes about being a hot mess, but since when is this a bad thing? Since when is it not okay to know what you're doing? Why are we trying to let others decide who we are or decide what we are going to do? Why are we afraid to regret doing something but not regret having not done it? Be a hot mess, be late to things, be who you really are.
Next time, if you're like me, you break a cup or spill food everywhere or accidentally knock a stranger in the face, remember that stuff happens and life is full of fun exciting random adventures and mishaps. Funny mishaps!
So let me ask, reader, what exactly makes you happy? Do you think that being a hot mess is the end of it all? If you were to wake up and do the same thing everyday for the rest of your life, would you feel fulfilled? Remember, your life isn't meant to be planned out perfectly. Expect road blocks and detours. This is totally okay and yes it is scary, but what fun is it if you always know what is coming?
Get in trouble, make mistakes, be late, because you are a one fine piece of hot mess. And love it!
