I'm Happy For You


I live through your smiles

You both are sunlight shining down

In an otherwise chilling town

Don't let my knit scarf which favors my neck

Fool you into thinking that is what keeps me warm

For it is the way your eyes light up that shifts the storm

I am happy for you both, and not in the way that people claim they are happy

When in reality they hold back their emerald eyes


It is simply not my turn for giddiness

To open my eyes from rest and not long to stay with my dreams

Yet, even if it is not me who shines so brightly

You provide me with hope that it actually exists

That joy is not a myth told

To keep desperation from swallowing the streets

I am happy for you both

So continue to pour your hearts in my hands

As they welcome your blushing hues

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
