Why I'm A Dog Lover Who Owns Cats

Cats just aren't the same.

I think it's an understatement saying I love dogs. They're honestly just so cute and friendly. They love you unconditionally and always know how to cheer you up. They are the most loyal creatures on Earth. I do not own a dog. I own cats. Don't get me wrong I'm honestly obsessed with MY cats but just mine. I think other people's cats are cute but not like other people dogs. I consider myself a dogless dog lover. For all you other dogless dog lovers I know EXACTLY how you feel.

Cats. It's embarrassing but I have four: Mila, Oliver, Tigger, and Shimmer. Honestly I don't even think you can own a cat. Cats own you. They meow until you answer their every whim. One minute they want you to pet them, the next they're ferociously attacking the hand you were just petting them with! As I said though, I'm obsessed with my cats.

I've always wanted my own dog but my family could never get one because we've always had cats. As most people know its hard to have both animals. We only had two cats at first, but I just had to fill the void of not having a dog with more cats. So without even asking my dad, me and my mom brought a bright orange eight week home kitten that we thought was a boy. We named him Milo. Milo ended up being a Mila. Mila had kittens. She had one kitten (yes I know its so weird but she literally only had one) so we kept him and named him Oliver. Oliver's dad is Tigger, my other cat (I know kind of gross) and the we adopted Shimmer from the animal shelter when my gerbil died (yup, my mom thought that was a GREAT idea!)

Being in love with dogs but not having one is a MAJOR struggle in everyday life. I have caught myself on multiple occasions not paying attention to people because I'm watching cute dog videos or looking up cute dog pictures. Its honestly kind of sad. I mean lets be real, if you were scrolling down through Twitter and you saw a dog with a birthday hat on in front of his birthday cake, you would probably get carried away like me and find yourself in the deep abyss of "daily pup" looking at videos they posted MONTHS ago.

If I honestly could have one with it would be to have a dog. Cats a great and cute, as are all fluffy animals, but dogs are just different. They want your love and affection 24/7. Owning a cat is completely different from dogs. Cats are so independent. They don't need to be walked, they have litter boxes or go outside alone. Mine help themselves to the food in the pantry. They figured out how to get in and rip the dry cat food bags opened. Sometimes I'm even convinced that they are plotting to take over our whole house. Dogs are just so different and depend on you more. They need to be walked and they also probably aren't plotting how to take over the house.

Being a dogless dog lover is tough but for all of us out there we can make it. One day we will all have our own houses and we can own as many dogs as we want! Being a dogless dog lover with cats is also tough. You want them to act like dogs but they can't. They aren't dogs and they can never replace dogs but we still love them anyways.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
