Being A College Student As Told By 'The Office'

Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way.

Being A College Student As Told By 'The Office'

The joys of college, filled with tears, laughs, heartbreak, stress, and some pretty amazing times. However, there are plenty of times where we are thinking many things that we would like to say and do to get through all of these times. Don't forget to enjoy the ride, because as they all say, college will be the best time of your life, and the friends you meet in college are usually your friends for life.

When professors ask the class, "Any questions? OK, no? We'll move on."

-- These are the professors who will ask you if you have any questions and after they've answered three questions, they refuse to answer anymore in class and tell everyone to email them about it. How about no!

When you take your first exam of the semester that you think you did awesome on and you get your grade back.

When the professor makes attendance mandatory and tells you they don't offer extra credit.

What professors think when they come up with their syllabus.

When your exam grade is higher than the exam average.

When people on campus ask if you'd like to sign a petition.

-- These can be random citizens or students who want you to sign their petition to legalize this and that, or they want you to fill out a survey on something that has no purpose in your life.

When someone in the class reminds the professor of homework that was due.

When you get a better grade than expected.

What's on your mind when you're in class at the end of August.

Watching students leave 15 minutes after class starts.

-- You look. You watch as they walk out the door. I for one always wonder what was so important that they left 15 minutes into the class and if it would be wrong if I also left.

When you see dogs on campus.

When the final grades are curved.

When the class exam average is less than a 70 percent.

The aftermath of eating campus dining food.

What you feel like doing when you see your ex on campus.

When everyone is out partying and you're busy working and studying.

When the sleep deprivation hits you.

Scheduling appointments around your other responsibilities.

When you run out of dining dollars and your bank account has $1.39 in it.

When you meet a weird person in class.

When you finally have a friend in one of your lectures.

Trying to find a parking spot on campus isn't as easy as it may seem.

Always printing....

No meals left, no food left in your apartment and no money results in....

That one kid in class that never shows up for lecture, only the exams, and somehow manages to get an A.

When there is three feet of snow on the ground, the ice on the roads is as thick as a hockey rinks, and it's below zero out and you still have class.

The look on your face 75 percent of the time.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
