Why society needs to get over this fad.

Why Being Chill Is Overrated

I am a strict Type-A person. I need to get to everything 10 minutes early, I spend more time than I would like to admit organizing my desk and my mind tends to race a mile a minute. “Chill” was never a word in my vocabulary, but for some reason, the word has taken on a world of its own. Today, being “chill” is glorified and expected in a cool person, which is complete bullshit.

1. There is no passion

No one has ever gotten anywhere by flying through life with a chill demeanor. Yes, it is totally OK to relax every once in a while, but in the long run, being chill does not do you any favors. Being passionate about the work you are doing is much more appealing than someone who sits at a desk and "chills" all day, waiting for it to be over.


2. No room for adventure

Life should also be about adventure. My idea of a good time is traveling a city I have never been to or going to a new restaurant to try new food. There is a whole world out there to explore and so many more people to meet, which is better than sitting on the couch. Being chill does not lead anyone to being a better-rounded human being and does not leave you with any fun stories to tell.


3. Kicks dating to the curb

A new form of dating that millennials picked up is this phrase known as “Netflix and chill” (cue the eye roll). The term Netflix and chill means watching Netflix while getting down and dirty. That is absurd and that is not dating. So no, I do not want to “Netflix and chill.” Come and take me on a real date.


4. It is boring

There is nothing more boring than a chill person. There, I said it. I am not interested in associating with someone whose idea of a good time is not doing anything or someone who does not stand up for anything. Be bold and dare to challenge the status quo. Do not just settle because people would like you to.

5. It is not intellectually stimulating

Most chill people do not stand up for their beliefs, because arguing is simply not the chill thing to do. But being smart and standing up for what you care about is extremely important and interesting.
