What It's Like Being The Astrology Friend

Fun, but time consuming.

What It's Like Being The Astrology Friend
Radical Zodiac

I can't tell you how many times a week someone bombards me with questions about astrology. Whether it's about themselves, someone they know, or simply the compatibility between them and their cat.

I'm not complaining -- I love every second of it. The entire reason I learned astrology was to better understand myself, others, and our relationships with the universe. It fascinating.

With that said, I have a thousand things to do on a daily basis, and I get a text saying "11/10/92 + 6/15/93." Anyone else might question the meaning behind the random birthdays in my inbox, but I know exactly what it means. It means, "Hey, Tiffany. I've been talking about you to this person and now they are wondering how much they get along with their significant other."

First of all, they should already know that, but alright I will look up their stuff and tell you what it means for them. It's fun, and takes my mind off of everything else I have to do.

However, something that a lot of people don't realize is that astrology isn't chalked up to simply sun signs. There's an entire chart with all of the planets, their houses, the aspects between them, stars, asteroids. It's complex, and as a result, time consuming for a daily task.

Being the astrology friend has its perks. I feel needed and special, knowing all of this information that a lot of people don't. I love getting a general understanding of people without ever really knowing them. But what was better was when people asked me first. I liked that long drawn out sentence where there was an opportunity for me to say no.

Not because I don't love the person, not because it's rude, not because I'm annoyed. Maybe a little because I feel like they should be forking over some cash for my services. But mostly because I want people to understand that this is stuff they can figure out on their own.

Go to Astro.com, type in your birth information, google what all the symbols mean, the placements; learn more about yourself, the people around you. It is your life after all. And it is one hell of a hobby if I do say so myself.

Now if you want my help with any of it, understanding the meaning behind things, etc., by all means come to me. We all start somewhere.

Even if astrology is complete bull crap to you, it's still an interesting concept. Maybe you think it's all fake, but why not figure out for yourself?

Because when I meet a person for the first time and think "Sagittarius," and later find out I was right, it proves there's at least a little bit of truth behind the signs.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
