The bible tells us so much about the traits and characteristics of a woman of virtue, and gives us countless examples of women who relentlessly pursued God. Many of us have read the stories of the fearlessness and faith of women like Mary, Esther, Ruth, and so many others. So why is it that we, the Christian women of today’s world, are so afraid? For so long in my life, I was afraid to become the woman I knew God wanted me to be. I was afraid of failure, and judgement. It’s easy to make excuses. But it’s time that we start pursuing God, and use the skills and talents that He has blessed us with to reach out to others. It’s so important to understand that the journey to becoming a virtuous woman of God is not a journey to perfection. Mistakes will still be made, and that’s okay. Perfection is unattainable. Our goal and mission should be to strive to live a life full of love, compassion, and faith. No matter how young or old you are, it’s never too late to strive to become a woman after God’s own heart. These are just some of the virtues that a Christian woman should have found in Proverbs 31.
Have Faith
Faith is having complete confidence or trust in someone, in good times and bad times. When life gets hard, it’s easy to give up on God, and sometimes even blame Him for the bad in life. But true faith is trusting in God even when you don’t understand His plan.
“She clothes herself with strength and dignity; she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25
Marriage & Family
Even if you’re not married at this point in your life, this still applies to you. Pray for your husband, or future husband daily. Seek God first in your relationship. Always love and respect your husband. A virtuous wife is always trustworthy and faithful.
“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far more than rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.” Proverbs 31: 10-12
God also tells us that it is important to put God first in our household. It is our job as mothers and future mothers to teach our children the ways that they should go and always be a Godly example for them.
Serve Others
God has called us all to be humble servants for His kingdom. We are to put others before ourselves, and have a gentle and loving spirit.
“She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.” Proverbs 31:20
Speak Wisdom & Kindness
This is a big one for me. In a heated situation, it’s sometimes easy to speak out of anger without thinking. But God wants us to strive to speak only wisdom, and never react out of anger. It is also so important to be kind to others. A little kindness goes a long way, and you never know how much you impact someone through even the smallest act of kindness.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.” Proverbs 31:26
Have True Beauty
God’s definition of beauty has absolutely nothing to do with clothes, hair color, or your contour being on point. God says that outward appearance has no value to him. The inner beauty that can only come from God is what is important.
“Do not let your adornment be merely outward, rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” 1 Peter 3:3-4
Who knows how many lives could be changed just by one virtuous woman? Let’s start today. It’s time we start pursuing God in every aspect of our lives, and become the fearless, faithful women that God has called us to be.
“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and these things will be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
