For the first 16 years of my life, I was the youngest in my family. Now I wouldn't say that I got special treatment or anything, but I definitely was the baby. So you can only imagine how my world was turned entirely upside down by the news that I was getting a baby sister. I went through an entire range of emotions – from frightened and nervous to completely overwhelmed with excitement. I had no idea just how much my whole entire life would change once this beautiful little girl came into the picture.
The first time I held my baby sister, I knew right then and there that I loved her with my whole entire heart. In that very moment, it was so apparent to me that we would hold a bond like no other. And now, three years later, that still rings true. In my little sister, I have found a best friend for life. There is no one in this whole wide world who can make me smile and laugh the way my spunky little sister can. She may only be three years old, but she is the smartest little girl I know and she comes with the attitude of a teenager! I may not be able to discuss all my adult problems with her, but all my worldly problems seem trivial after we take a trip to the park or a drive to get ice cream together.
Now there are some rather tricky parts to becoming an older sister as an almost-adult. When I take her with me to do things, people often assume she's my daughter rather than my little sister. I can't really blame them, though. As sisters, we look so much alike that it is a mistake that anyone could easily make. I always just laugh it off and remind people that I am "sissy," not "mommy." One of the hardest parts of being an older sister at this age is that between being a full-time college student and working a part-time job, it's hard to always spend quality time together. Just the other day, she stopped by my job while I was working and the first thing she said to me was: "Sissy, I miss you all the days!" That completely melted my heart. We may not spend all the time together I wish that we could, but I guarantee that every second I spend with her is more special than anything in the world.
Becoming a big sister at the age of 16, was a huge change for me. I never imagined just how much I could love and adore such a tiny little human until I met my little sister. This little girl has brought so much joy and laughter into my life. She took my world by storm and she now has me wrapped entirely around her tiny little finger. And I wouldn't change a single thing.
