When it comes to family, I was blessed with an amazing one. With Father’s Day having just passed, it only seems right to write about the most amazing man I’ve ever known. I’m lucky enough to call him Daddy. Growing up, I was a big time daddy’s girl, and little has changed. Daddy, I know you don't "do Facebook," but maybe, just maybe, you'll see this.
Because you instilled in me a love for gardening and growing things, we grow, without a doubt, the best tomatoes around. This is a statistically proven fact.
Because you have always taught me to save money rather than spend it, I’m so tight with my money that I squeak when I walk.
Because you love sports, you encouraged me to play softball and tennis, and you never failed to give me much needed (if not wanted) pointers after my games, such as “Emmie, that was a good game, BUT…”
Because you always threw the football with me in the yard when I was young, I have a mildly impressive spiral.
Because you gave me good, solid advice, I always knew what I should do (even when I failed to follow your advice).
Because you knew that I would make stupid decisions, you were always ready to forgive me when I made them.
Because you knew that I needed to be self-sufficient, you taught me how to check the oil and tire pressure in my car.
Because you know I will likely marry a man who is like you, you're kind, just, and loving. And you help with the dishes.
Because you know how badly kids need a dad, you're a dad not only to your children, but to your grandson as well.
Because you want your children to have a chance to succeed, you work extremely long days with no complaint and never shy away from making sacrifices.
But, because you know that money is not the most important thing in life, you always make time for sports matches, family vacations, and spending time with your loved ones.
Because you are a man of God, you raised us in church and live your life as a walking example of Christ’s love.
Because you wanted us to know right from wrong, you disciplined us and didn’t spoil us by sparing the rod.
Because you care about my safety, you always stay up until I get home, even when this means you have to stay up late.
Because you believe in me, you never fail to encourage my ever-changing career aspirations.
Because you knew how closely my siblings and I would watch you, you taught us how to live our lives through actions, rather than words.
If there is any lesson that you've taught me, it's that a girl needs her daddy. You're one of my biggest blessings, and I'm more thankful for you than you'll ever know. You've always been my best friend, gardening partner, protector, and a constant in an ever-changing world.
All this, simply because you loved me.
