Every person needs their person. The person that, regardless of the time of day or what they are doing, they’ll drop everything just to have a phone call with you, the person that is 100 percent in your corner and will be the first willing soldier to fight your battles and the person who has not only held your hand during your failures, but has given a standing ovation during your successes. That person for me would be my mom and I consider myself to be one of the luckiest girls in the world, simply because of the relationship I have with her.
Because of my mom, I will never feel unloved. Yes, she is the only person required to love me, but she’s the person who has shown me what unconditional love looks like. She loved me through the years of me being a moody teenager, through all the time demanding sports and clubs I insisted in being a part of and through every awkward, middle school phase I went through. She’s taught me how to show love, empathy and compassion in my everyday life. She’s shown me what it means to be a good person and how I deserve to be treated by others.
Because of my mom, I will always have someone to trust wholeheartedly. She’s the person I tell everything to. She knows about my friends, my job, my classes, the boys I like, even what I had for dinner last night. She’s the person I call when I need advice or just an ear for me to vent to. She’s the only person who I know will tell me if I’m in the wrong, yet somehow will always be in my corner and have my best interest. I have never felt the need to hide things from her and I know that regardless of any mistake I make, she’ll always understand and support me through it.
Because of my mom, I am independent and ambitious. It’s an amazing feeling to know someone has full faith in you. She believes in me more than I believe in myself and has always been there to push me to my full potential. She knows my strengths and my weaknesses and has always allowed me to make my own decisions for myself. I want to go to school out of state? Sure! I want to go to Europe for an internship? Absolutely! She supports my goals and my dreams and has never felt that they were unattainable or unrealistic. Because of my mom, I feel as if I can conquer the world, but never as if I had to do it alone.
My mom is my best friend. She is the mom that even my friends feel comfortable confiding in and getting advice from. At the same time, she is a spectacular parent. She showed me tough love and discipline and molded me into an independent, driven and loving individual. I will never be able to thank her for the constant love and support she continues to show me. She never lets a day go by where she doesn't let me know how proud of me she is or how much I'm loved. Because of my mom, I know the kind of mom I hope to be.
