Several years ago, I discovered PostSecret, and I have been a devoted follower ever since. For those of you who have not heard of PostSecret, the concept is simple: people mail postcards to a man named Frank Warren. These postcards contain sometimes objects, sometimes art, but always secrets. There are very few guidelines for these postcards; the most important guideline is that the secret can never have been told to anyone before.
Every Sunday, Frank updates his blog with new secrets, and every Sunday, I take them in, filled with deep admiration, sometimes joy, sometimes sadness. These secrets are poignant, funny and heartbreaking. Sometimes I find a secret that speaks to me, and I feel a bit less alone in the world. That, I think, is the beauty of PostSecret. It connects us by our secrets, reminding us that the things we are feeling and keeping are not only felt or kept by us. We are not as alone as we often feel.
Below is just a sampling of secrets from over the years that have humbled, uplifted and inspired. I hope that by reading them, you will feel as connected as I do.
