In recent years, the Black Lives Matter movement has become more and more prominent. On the frontline of this movement are strong intelligent black women. With the likes of Sandra Bland and Rekia Boyd, I wanted to celebrate our Beautiful Black Queens with a poem recognizing their worth. Black women you are truly appreciated. With the perpetuation of stereotypes of black women as loud, aggressive, and "angry," black American women face a particular set of challenges that often aren't discussed. Black women are truly beautiful beyond their looks and curves. This poem is a dedication to the Black Woman and also in dedication to my beautiful mother Darlene Richardson-Jones, the strongest woman I know.
Beautiful Black Queen
Her mind is filled with the knowledge of our ancestors
Skin blessed by the melanin gods
Strong as any prize fighter
Everyday she beats the odds
Smile brighter than a thousand suns
No need to compete, she's already won
Her soul is pure
Confidence secure
Praise that beautiful woman? Always make sure
I love that woman
Strong Black Woman
With her natural hair
Smooth brown skin
Afrocentric sister that always win
She is a Queen,
And should be treated as such
Beautiful Black Queen
Your beauty transcends past outward looks
Wisdom out reads a million books
Beautiful Black Queen
I salute thee
Beautiful Black Queen
Without you,
There would be no me
