How To Act At An Amusement Park

Summer is in full swing (well, almost over for most college students). This time of the year is a time to enjoy being outside. To go on day trips to local parks, or maybe not so local parks. Having fun is the one thing on your mind when you get there, but here a few things to try and remember while you are visiting the park.

Treat employees how you'd like to be treated.

Yes, it is part of our job to be nice to everyone. We get that but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt us or upset us when we are treated like worthless trash you've found on the side of the road. Respect is a two way street. If you respect us, we will show you the same respect back. And nine times out of ten, you are the guest that makes our day and reminds us why we keep doing this year after year.

Please don't yell at us for things we can't control.

Weather is a big one. We're sorry that a pop up storm has come into the area. We're sorry it's caused the rides to close for the time being. But there isn't much that we can do about it. We wish we could. We all hate ride down times as much as you do. Trust me. None of us planned on getting stuck in that storm, either. At least you are able to go home (or back to the hotel), we are not that lucky. While some of us may be close to finishing our day, others are just coming in or we have to finish out the thirteen hour shift we have that day. In our soaking wet shirt, pants, socks and shoes. Wet socks and shoes are the worst to be honest, I could care less if my shirt was wet.

Please don't get mad at us when we enforce safety policy.

We understand that sometimes some policies may not make sense. They may seem stupid in the heat of the moment, but they are in place for a reason. And the reason is your and our safety. We don't want to see any of our guests get hurt because of simple things that could have be prevented. This is why these policies are enforced. So please, try to understand we are only looking out for you and your well being.

Please don't record us.

This one is mostly for those certain guests who record everything when an employee tells them something they don't like (when they can't do something and claim the employee is being racist). In today's world, nearly everyone has a smart phone. They come in handy, but please, do not record us without our permission. I do not want to end up on your Snapchat, Facebook or wherever you are posting the video when we are interacting with you. If I'm coming to tell you not to do something, I'm looking out for your safety in some way. I'm not doing it because I feel the need to ruin your day. But it's an invasion of my privacy while I'm working for you to be recording me. It's not respectful and you wouldn't like it if I recorded all the things I had just seen you doing that could get you in a lot more trouble than just me telling you to "Please don't do..."

Do not threaten us in our place of work.

This one is huge for me personally. Yes, you are the guest and we are there for you to enjoy your day. But when things don't work out the way you planned (like the weather) and we enforce some of our policies for stormy weather and safety, do not threaten to do bodily harm to us. This will be reported, and it can end in a couple of different ways -- all of which aren't going to make your day any better. It may make it worse.

This is our place of employment. We have every right to feel safe when we are on the clock. So please, do not make it so we have to get security involved because you've made threats to cause us harm. No one in the park takes these things lightly. Including the township cops that are always on property.

Going to amusement and theme parks in the summer is a great way to make lifelong memories while you spend summer days out and about without having to decide what you should do, only deciding on what ride to start with and when to get the funnel cake. So, please, keep these few things in mind when you go to a park. We are also trying to have the best day possible along with making sure you are having the best day ever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
