It's Important To Be Original And Embrace Your Weirdness

I know this isn't as easy as it sounds.

It's Important To Be Original And Embrace Your Weirdness

When people say "be yourself", all I can think is I'm trying my best! Although we were all born as beautiful unique individuals and to not present exactly who we are would be both a disservice to ourselves and to the world.

There is no doubt that in today's world it can be extremely difficult to be yourself, as there are so many societal pressures to fit in and to try to be liked by everyone. You want to make sure that you don't stand out because then you could be a target for scrutiny.

But you also don't want to blend in too much because then you are weird for being boring. I see myself falling into this trap also as I won't wear something because I am so worried about what everyone else will think. I believe social media has an influence on this as you want to appear "cool" and have this amazing life that everyone else needs to see.

It's almost like we are living for other peoples approvals as opposed to our own. It is sad in many ways but that is sometimes the reality. We document everything so that others can see it, not so we can look at it and enjoy it.

I always struggled with the word "weird" as I never really understood the meaning of it. The connotation of the word is an insult but it doesn't seem very insulting to me once I think about what it really means. In the dictionary, it states that it means "strange or extraordinary character."

Rather you are not typical and you have unique parts of you that make you stand out. Because I thought that was a good thing. I now look at the word "weird" differently because I see it as unique and rather you don't blend in but stand out. "Weird" is so yesterday.

Finally, we are all

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
