Winter break is the best and worst part of your college year. You get to be home and taken care of by your parents, there are no tests or homework assignments and everything is free. But there are a lot of parts of break that I definitely don’t miss when I get back to school, and I’ll list them for y’all below!
At school, I have friends.
Sure, at home we have our high school friends, but no one really gets the new and improved college you quite like your college friends! One of the best parts of getting back to school is always having someone to goof around with!
The food is satisfyingly unhealthy.
At home, the food is free and comforting, but what's college without the Freshman 15? Chips, Hot Pockets and ice cream were the three main foods in my dorm room diet and honestly, it doesn't get much better than being able to eat whatever you want like a grown adult.
There are plenty of things to do.
At home, we fill our days with three Netflix shows in three weeks, which is wonderful, but your body starts to ache from lying on the couch for so long. When you get back to school, your calendar immediately fills up and you have something to do even when you don't want to do anything.
You continue to learn new, exciting things about yourself.
While the many events and schoolwork can be super stressful, you really do learn how strong you are. You learn that there is no limit to the number of Friday classes you can miss because of a hangover and that you can go at least three weeks without having to do laundry. Yes, mom doing everything for you is fab, but knowing you can do it for yourself is awesome too!
Your only worry is yourself.
Being with family is so relaxing, but when your mom makes you do the dishes for the first time you're really confused because you don't do that kind of thing anymore except for when you have to wash your coffee mug in the community bathroom sink. The best part of getting back to school is being able to "focus" on yourself and your school work and your life.
Winter break is lovely, but living the college life is what dreams are made of!
