Check Out JMU's "Be Beautiful" Campaign

JMU's Panhellenic Council is sponsoring its annual Be Beautiful Campaign April 4-7.

Be Beautiful Campaign is a weeklong celebration of empowering women and promoting the most unique parts about ourselves that make us who we are. The Panhellenic Council strives to promote these things not only during this one week, but all throughout the year.

Multiple events are held throughout the Be Beautiful Campaign. Each event is sponsored by the Panhellenic Council and the Junior Panhellenic Council. The money raised from the events of the week will go towards First Step. This organization serves women of the Harrisonburg community effected by domestic violence. They are so excited to have the opportunity to team up with us for Be Beautiful Campaign this year. Please come out and support the Greek Community and First Step at all our events this week.

Events for the Week:

All Week: Commons Day

Stop by the commons all week where the Panhellenic community will have different activities every day! Each activity will consist of bringing out the beauty within yourself. It's a lot of fun you won't want to miss.

All Week: Penny Wars on the Row

Have any loose change lying around? Take it to the top of the row this week and drop it in your organization's container. The money collect goes towards benefitting the women of First Step.

April 4: Little Words Project

7:00 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium

A campus favorite, Little Words Project is coming back this semester this evening only! This time with a new twist. Company founder, Adriana, will not only be selling bracelets through a trunk show, but she will also be speaking to the JMU community about what inner beauty means to her. She is very excited to be coming back to our campus, and have the opportunity to speak this time.

April 6: Role Model Fashion Show

7:00 p.m. in Wilson Auditorium

Two women from each chapter were nominated to represent their organization at this event. This event recognizes Greek women who are from both the Panhellenic Council and the Inter-Cultural Greek Council that exemplify inner beauty within their organizations. Admission is $3, but all the proceeds go towards First Step as well. A First Step representative will be speaking at this event, and there will be a special halftime performance.

April 7: First Step Proceeds Night at Jalepenos

What better way to end Be Beautiful Campaign than a proceeds night! Come out to Jalepenos on Thursday, April 7th with your friends, and a percentage of your check will also benefit the women of First Step.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
