Recently I saw the movie "Bad Moms." Now, I went expecting this movie just to make me laugh and joke about how these moms went rogue. Surprisingly enough though, this movie made me really think of the type of mom I would want to be. I can now say with full confidence that I want to be a bad mom! Not the partying and wildness that you expect, but the type of moms who get real about life.
Here are the best lessons I've learned from the movie "Bad Moms" and all the reasons I want to grow up to be a bad, bad mom.
1. Raising an entitled generation
Stop this! This is huge!! Mila Kunis, who plays Amy Mitchell in "Bad Moms," stresses just how messed up the upcoming generation is when it comes to being entitled. We expect everything handed to us on a silver platter instead of working hard for it. However, being a "bad mom" might mean not giving your kid everything they want. It means making them learn to work hard for things they want because they will value it so much more.
2. Playing perfect
Here's the deal, we all do this. We pretend that we have everything in life all figured out because we want everyone around us to think we're perfect, life is G-R-E-A-T. Lesson from "Bad Moms": we are all trying to figure out the best way to come at life, so stop acting like you've got it together all the time. It is okay to admit that you don't have a clue what you're doing. It is okay to ask for help. And believe it or not, it is okay to have a bad day! Eventually, playing perfect becomes the most draining thing in life. Let it go. Also, stop judging everyone else's life around you. They may look like they have it altogether, but they might be falling to pieces and stumbling around to figure things out just like you.
3. Stop stressing
This one is probably one of the harder lessons to learn because we live in such a fast paced world that it is almost impossible not to reach your maximum stress level before you reach the bottom of your first cup of coffee. But seriously, give yourself a break! Be honest with your limitations and don't take on more than you can handle. It is completely okay to say no! No to adding more to your impossibly long list of daily activities, no to being perfect, and no to things you know just aren't worth your time in reality. It's also okay to play hookie for a day to reset and destress!
4. Say what you feel
People are not mind readers. They will not know how you feel about something unless you communicate. Kristen Bell, aka Kiki in the movie, learns to use her voice, and talk about empowering! Communicate with people around you and tell them how you feel about something or what you think! Open your mouth and use your words. Stop letting life pass you by with someone else in your drivers seat. Take the wheel! Say what you feel.
5. Forever friends
Finally, surround yourself with people you can be 100 percent real with. The group of bad moms in the movie didn't look like each other, come from the same backgrounds, or have the same lifestyles. The one thing they did have in common was they were able to be honest with each other. Find some friends that you can lay it all out there with unapologetically. The group that stands by you on your best days and who will get you through your worst. That group that inspires you to be the best you.
See, when I finally grow up and possibly settle down, I want nothing more than to be a bad mom.
