If you're like me, then you love superhero movies. This year was supposed to be the best thanks to "Deadpool," "X-Men: Apocalypse," and "Suicide Squad" (it's not quite a superhero movie, but close enough). There are so many movies that have the potential of being great this year, but one proved to be the worst: "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice." Fans gave this movie the benefit of the doubt, but the second that it came out, audiences everywhere knew that it was going to be a train wreck. People who don't even know the comics knew that this movie was a mess and they were right. Here's a list of the top things that the new DC movie did wrong.
1. The military didn't lift a finger.
The military is always one of the major sources of annoyance in movies like this, but their absence was confusing. They only showed up for one point in the movie and that was to completely mess the plan up. They either needed to have a consistent presence or not be there at all.
2. Why does Lex Luthor know the identities of Batman and Superman?
So, this was probably the most annoying thing to me as I watched the movie. The identities of the heroes in the DC world are almost never known. They're called secret identities for a reason, Batman's and Superman's especially! Yes, there are spinoff universes where Luthor finds out Superman's identity, but he refuses to believe it. In this new rendition, he embraces it to use it as leverage.
3. Lex Luthor went off the deep end.
Luthor is an egotistical nightmare and he's always one of the smartest businessmen in the DC world. He schemes, kills, and runs the world while keeping both his bald head and his reputation spotless. He's crazy, yes, but the Luthor that was in the movie was just a little too psychotic.
4. Wonder Woman is stereotyped.
She's going to galas and getting on planes instead of being home on Themyscira? No way. Apparently, Princess Diana is now a warrior princess who only comes to the aid of the human world when she feels the need to. She disobeys the most sacred rule of her homeworld to help humans, but they show her shopping and chasing after a picture? She deserved better.
5. We get it, Superman and Lois Lane are together.
Yes, they're a couple. Yes, they're adorable. No, Lois Lane doesn't need to have a moment with Superman every time when he's about to save the city/world from Doomsday.
6. Stop with the guns.
Whoever believed that giving Batman guns was going to be a good idea was delusional. Not only did he have guns on all of his vehicles, but he shot people and killed them. He killed them. This is easily the worst aspect of the movie, as Batman is one of the few characters in the DC universe who has a "no kill" policy. To see him blatantly not caring about the lives of the people who he was dealing with was maddening.
All of these qualities combined had me leaving the movie theater angry and disappointed. The acting was great, the filming was excellent, and the technology was impressive. Everything else was terrible. The writers didn't do the actors justice in this movie.
