Basic Time Line Of All Road Trips

We've all been there.

Basic Time Line Of All Road Trips

As college students are preparing for spring break or sadly just ending their spring break, there is a good chance that most of us will be driving somewhere. Whether it be just to your hometown or to some popular spring break destinations all road trips seem to have the same timeline. So whether you are going for a short three hour drive or a long 24 hour drive here is what is bound to happen during your trip. So grab your friends, buckle up and prepare for the long haul.

1. 8:00 a.m. departure time.

Chances are you overslept and now are scurrying to grab all your stuff, because we all know you didn't pack the car the night before. While in the process of brushing your teeth, putting on some clothes and trying to eat some toast, you are quickly running through your last minute checklist: brush, phone charger, keys, wallet, etc. You run out the door around 8:15, half dressed and hair a mess but who cares when you're going to be in the car all day. You quickly go to pick your friends up who, of course, are also running late. If you are lucky you'll hit the road by 9:00 a.m. "We'll make up for the lost time when we hit the road."

2. 9:30 a.m bathroom break.

We all know that one friend who didn't use the bathroom before we left and know the whole entire car as to suffer while we pull over and wait for them to go. Of course you most likely had to go too so you go to "just so we don't have to stop again."

3. 10:30 a.m. slow mover.

By now most of your passengers have probably passed out and it is just you, the music, and the open road. You have probably set your cruise to be going about 10 miles above the speed limit and are happily cruising in the right lane, occasionally passing a car. Then the worst thing in the world happens and you run into a car going the speed limit in the left lane. You can feel your temper spiking as you silently or loudly curse him out for being in your lane. You can't get around him in the right lane because there is a car there so now you are just stuck there going the actual speed limit. Who even does that? Eventually the car in the right lane starts to speed up a little and you quickly change lanes and death glare the slow driver as you pass them. *angry yelling of profanities*

4. 12:30 p.m. lunch.

You have been making good time and your friends have been are starting to wake up and become hangry. So you quickly pull off and start the discussion of where to eat which of course turns into a mini-argument because it would be insane for everyone to agree. After much debate you all settle for one place. Now if you are like me you do not allow those people to bring all that food into your car because you would rather arrive 30 minutes later than have the car smell like oily fast food. "If one of y'all throws up in the car, you will be walking."

5. 2:00 p.m. bathroom break.

We all have that one friend who has the bladder the size of a pea and must stop for the bathroom literally every two hours. Secretly we are thankful though because deep down we needed to stop too. "If you are not back to the car in two minutes, you will be walking."

6. 4:00 rush hour traffic.

Like most college kids we are probably leaving on Friday because of class or work. Now everyone knows that rush hour on Fridays start earlier than normal because everyone is eager to be off for the weekend. Of course by some miracle you have to drive through a very large city at this time and get caught in traffic which tends to slow you down to a crawl. Please don't be one of those cars who likes to fit into the smallest gap possible. "No red SUV I was not letting you in, I was leaving that space so I don't hit the car in front of me!"

7. 5:30 p.m. back on the open road.

You finally made it through rush hour and you vowed to never live in a city where you'll have to deal with that everyday. You are are coming down to the last few hours of your trip where you know nothing could possibly go wrong. *tries to be optimistic*

8. 8:00 p.m. expected arrival time.

Right about now you should be pretty close to your final destination but of course you aren't. You are sitting in bumper to bumper traffic that is going absolutely no where. About a thousand feet up the road is an accident. You've already been sitting in the traffic jam for an hour. You've turned the car off to save gas and now your friends are complaining about being too hot/cold. The friend with the small bladder is complaining about needing to go to the bathroom. You are not sure how much longer you can hold out. "Just go pee behind that truck, no one will see."

9. 9:00 p.m. two hours stuck in the traffic jam.

All hope has been lost. You are on your last straw with your friends, you've run out of snacks and you've considered walking the rest of the way. The one friend who needed the bathroom finally cracked and went in a bottle which you all vowed to never speak off again. Right about now you are contemplating why you are even friends with these people. Luckily, before you are able to ruin any friendship you see cars in front of you to slowly start move and hope is restored. "I hate all of you."

10. 11:00 p.m. actual arrival time.

Finally you have made it. Everyone is tired and annoyed. While you originally may have planned to go out now you all are just too tired, sore and smelly. You opted out of showering, knowing you'll probably just fall asleep in there, and head off to bed. As soon as you crawl under the sheets you are out like a light. In your last moments before you fall asleep you vow to never go on another road-trip again. *snore*

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
