The time is upon us. There is only one more week until classes start. Some people are already on campus. But some people, like me, are still procrastinating. Instead of packing, I've decided to make the ultimate "Back To The 'Burg" playlist. I have a 12-hour drive ahead of me, so you better believe that I'm going to use music to get me through it. Here are six songs that will contribute to any Lynchburg bound road trip's success.
1. "Here I'm Home" - Jeff Carl
This needs to be the first and last song on your playlist. I heard this song for the first time on my way to Liberty as a sophomore when my SLC made me the hottest mixtape of all time. (Sarah, you're the real MVP.) You'll smile. You'll cry. It will get you PUMPED to be back at LU and see your friends again.
2. "HAPPINESS" - NEEDTOBREATHE
I don't exactly know what this has to do with going back to school. Maybe you're just happy to be back. But it's a real jam, so just trust me on this one. You know what, just add their entire album H A R D L O V E to your playlist. Because it's just that good.
3. "College Kids" - Relient K
I know what you're thinking: Relient K? Really? Are we back in middle school youth group? But this is such a fun song about the struggles of college life. It may make you question why you chose to put yourself through four years of higher education, but it will also get you excited about being a "college kid' again.
4. "Fly Away" - 5 Seconds of Summer
I'm a boyband girl. What can I say? This song is all about moving forward and it's perfect for that cross-country trek you're making. While you're at it, check out all of 5 Seconds of Summer's music. I'm a big fan of Australian weirdos.
5. "This Is Liberty" - Humble Tip
Did you really think I would leave this out? If you don't listen to this song at least once on your way back to Liberty, you're doing it wrong. Play some Humble Tip in your car and he'll make it hot, make it hot.
6. "Cruise" - Florida Georgia Line
This is one of the few songs that I prefer the remix over the original. So I suggest the Nelly version on this one. Some of you may cringe at country music. I understand. And don't even get me started on this new trend of mixing country and rap. Is that even legal? I'll save that rant for a different article. But suffice it to say, this song is a road trip necessity.
So that's it. Six must-haves on your "Back to the 'Burg" playlist. Whether you're five minutes or 5,000 miles away from campus, crank the volume and jam out to these songs. You won't be disappointed.
