Ever since I can remember, the first day of school always gave me my favorite rush of emotions. Maybe it was the new Number 2 pencils in kindergarten, or getting to wear spaghetti straps when I finally got to ninth grade during those first few weeks of September. Back to school is the most exciting time. Everything is so fresh and new, yet familiar at the same time. Seeing all of your friends, the prospect of making new ones. There are endless possibilities.
Most people make New Years Resolutions; however, I have long preferred back to school resolutions. First of all, I don’t want to wait around to make big changes in my life; going back to school is the perfect excuse to chop all of your hair off, get in shape, or motivate yourself to raise your GPA. Whatever the case may be, take the last of the dog days of summer to relax and reflect on your years past. What has gone well? What could you work on? Take those thoughts and translate them into realistic goals.
For example, if you spent too much time going out last semester, try to make a schedule of when you will stay in and go out. Implement lifestyle changes to make your resolutions work for you. There might be some bumps along the way but with some trial and error, your goals can be accomplished.
There is nothing more satisfying than reaching the end of the semester and seeing results. Hence, why goal setting is so important. If you end up having trouble staying motivated along the way, think about reaching your goal, and how good it will feel knowing that, although you missed some banger on a Thursday night, you aced that exam and pulled out an A in that four credit class you stressed about.
Whatever your goals or aspirations for this semester may be, fall is the perfect time to get the ball rolling and put your best foot forward. Stay focused and stay motivated!
