11 Back To College Moments, As Told By Nick Miller

Your favorite grumpy man is back to help you get through the most grumpy inducing season of the year.

11 Back To College Moments, As Told By Nick Miller

TV's "New Girl" is one of my all-time favorite shows, and one of my all-time favorite TV characters is the grumpy yet loveable Nick Miller. School is starting up again soon and that means a huge range of emotions. Who better to describe the many faces of back to school than the world's most irrationally angry man?

1. Seeing Your First Tuition Bill

I'm paying you how much for the demise of my mental health?

2. Trying To Move In With Your Whole Family Present

media.giphy.com

There is no way I will get anything done with four other people in my closet sized dorm all yelling at each other about the best way to carry my clothes in. I'll be in the closet if you need me.

3. The First Couple Days That You're Moved In Before Classes Start

After you get all of your stuff moved in, there's really not a whole lot to do. You can sit and stress about all of the assignments you're going to have this semester, but even that only takes up so much time. At this point, you're ready for classes to start just to have something to do.

4. Not Wearing Sweatpants the Entire First Week of Classes

It wasn't easy, but it got done. Thank you to all of my supporters out there for helping me get this far.

5. Getting To See Your Friends Again

media.giphy.com

Probably the best thing about school starting again is getting to see all of your old pals. Sure, they might all have gorgeous tans and perfect summer bods while, despite your best efforts, you still look like the Pillsbury dough boy, but hey, who else would you shoot finger guns at and tell all of your terrible puns to? Besides, in your heart of hearts, you know that there's no one else you'd rather go through the next four months of stressful hell with.

6. The First Day Of Class When Everyone Acts Like They've Been Here For Weeks

media.giphy.com

It inevitably feels like you're the only one in class that doesn't know what's going on the first couple of days. Everyone else acts like they've been here for weeks and you start to feel like a foreign exchange student in a country that you don't speak the language of.

7. Remembering That You're Going To Have To Eat Dining Hall Food For The Next Several Months

media.giphy.com

You think, "hey maybe I was overreacting and it wasn't that bad last year." You take the first bite and remember that, no you weren't overreacting at all. You might have even been underreacting.

8. When a Professor Decides to Skip Syllabus Day

media.giphy.com

I get that you may want to get an extra day of teaching in, but I have mentally prepared myself to listen to you talk for 50 minutes then leave without a single assignment. What's worse is that they might even decide to give a pop quiz too.

9. When You Realize You're In A Class With Every Single Person You Hate

media.giphy.com

I'm just here to get my notes and get out. Don't talk to me, and just don't talk in general if you could.

10. When You Try To Start Your First Assignment

media.giphy.com

Ah, the moment when you go to begin writing and all of the information that you've learned comes flooding back. Just kidding, your brain has been allowed to turn to mush over the course of three months. You probably can't even remember the stages of mitosis at this point. Good luck trying to make anything sensible come out of your brain for at least three days.

11. The Acceptance

Yeah you complain about it, but in the end it's not that bad. It's stressful, I'll give you that, but it is what it is and at least you're not going it alone.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
