Feeling The Back To School Blues?

Not exactly "happy" to leave my Momma's snuggles, but I am ready to plunge into my roomies' sweet arms!

Ah, the sweet aroma of trash rooms, burnt cookies, and backed up plumbing pipes. Sounds inviting, doesn't it? Yeah, it may be hard to readjust to dorm life after settling back into the comfort of your home. But, have no fear- there are some positives to returning back to campus for another awesome semester!

1. Reuniting with friends!

It was wonderful to come home and drown myself in love and attention from my family. Seriously, I could brunch with my mom every day for the rest of my life and be completely happy. However, I made some of my best friends in the entire world when I went to college, so breaks from school also mean distance from them. While sometimes I'm not quite ready to leave my fam, by halfway through my trip I am itching to attack my roommates in a grand cuddle attack that trumps any and all before it! Plus, let's be honest, there were times that I got pretty bored over the break.

2. Free reign on food

Okay, I know caf food is less than appealing. Especially when you're leaving all of the deliciousness that came with eating at home during the holidays. Think about this, though. Leaving home and returning back to college means leaving restrictions and returning to freedom. You get to choose if you want the salad bar, the pasta line, or the student center full of fast food options for dinner tonight. Nothing except for ice cream sounds good? Who's stopping you from indulging in some double fudge brownie and calling it a night? I'm definitely not!

3. Routine

Chilling out for three weeks with no responsibilities was definitely not something I can complain about. It was wonderful; I don't think I opened my binder once. I still kept up with my workouts and such, but I went whenever I wanted to. Hello, snooze button! However, those late mornings will definitely catch up with me when my 6:30 alarm goes off once school starts back. After a few days, it will be nice to be back in my normal daily rhythm; my body and mind will sense the familiarity. I will have things to occupy my time now because let's face it, productivity is a virtue. I miss my daily coffee time in the student center, my lunch dates, and my roomie Walmart runs.

Breaks are glorious creations that save students from complete mental breakdowns. But that's just it; they're breaks. Eventually, we must return to our collegiate lifestyles that await us as a new semester begins. While we may not be ready yet, school beckons for our return. But hey, college has become home-away-from-home, and everyone knows it's nice to be home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
