It is finally summertime and a lot of us have no idea what to do with ourselves. There is no doubt that reality TV personality, Kaitlyn Bristowe, is giving us the entertainment we desperately need. 25 guys and one girl? Who wouldn't want to trade places with her?
All any girl wants to do on a Monday night is grab a glass of wine and catch up on the new episodes of The Bachelorette.
Three episodes into the show and it is already off to a great start. Opening with two bachelorettes, Britt Carolina and Bristowe created an intense first episode. Not an intense like Chris Harrison always claims, but actually intense. It started out with the two women competing for the title as "The Bachelorette." After a long night, the men voted and decided Kaitlyn was the best choice to carry on as The Bachelorette.
Soon into the show, promos were released and it is all any fans can talk about. In the spoiler, we can see that Bristowe is involved in a sex scandal. She apparently had relations with one of the contestants before the fantasy suite. She has been taking the heat for her actions for the past few weeks. Viewers are astonished and not cutting her any slack.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bristowe explains how she is not ashamed of her actions. “I'm a 30-year-old woman and I make my own decisions and intimacy to me is a part of every relationship and I don't know why everyone is so shocked by it. It's 2015."
The reactions by viewers and the contestants became that of slut-shaming. Looking back on previous seasons, bachelor Ben Flajnik had relations with Courtney Robertson as she reveals in her book. Another bachelor Juan Pablo apparently had sex before the fantasy suite with a contestant. The following day she gave a toast “to finding love, being loved, and making love." I am sure many other bachelors on the show have had similar situations. Those men received no such harassment and criticism from their actions.
As much as I love the show, it closely resembles an escort service, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Bristowe is a woman looking for her husband, and sexual relations are a part of that. It may not fall in line with the beliefs of some people and that is okay, however, it is not okay to scrutinize her for her actions just because she is a woman.
If the roles were reversed and it was a man in her position, I have a hard time believing he would have the same kind of reactions as she is receiving.
I am a huge fan of The Bachelorette and cannot wait to see what the show has in store for us this season.
