After long summers consisting of internships, research projects or classes, the only thing on every Michigan kid’s mind is moving in, Welcome Week and Football Saturdays.
After living in my sorority for two years, I was both nervous and excited to move into and live in my senior house. Would it be all that different from the sorority? Would it be weird not living with 70 other girls under one roof?
After moving in with nine of my friends, I realized there were some major similarities:
- There are still lots of things – Clothes, food, shoes, etc.
- There are still people everywhere – There is always someone to go out with and someone to stay in with.
- There are still social chairs – In our sorority we had one person from each senior house designate themselves as the social chair for that house. There is a group text for all social chairs so plans can be easily coordinated.
There are also some big differences:
- You need to cook and clean – you have to figure out if you are going to buy supplies as a house or individually. Similarly, do you cook your own food or do you cook family style for everyone? Cleaning also needs to be done, both in your room and the shared living areas.
- No house mom – There are no adults and no rules other than the ones you and your roommates agree on.
Even though there are fewer people living under one roof, some things barely change from sorority house living to living in an off-campus house as a senior. Some things, on the other hand...
