The Average Day Of An Elementary Schooler

"I just want to feed my Webkinz before going to the bus stop."

The Average Day Of An Elementary Schooler

Mom opens my door and slowly creeps over to my bed as she turns on my light, telling me it's time for my bath. Time for another incredibly long day of the third grade. It really stinks thinking of all the multiplication tables I'm going to have to do today when all I want to do is check up on my Webkinz. Mom said no, though. No computer time for me until I finish my worksheets after school. After my bath, mom throws some butterfly clips in my hair quickly, so I can make the bus on time. Super excited to see my bus stop friends.

I sit in seat 10 and pull out my Tomagatchi to check on my baby egg. Hasn't hatched yet. Once I get to school, I skip off the bus and make my way inside. I walk into my classroom and realize this is absolutely the most incredible and best day of my life. Today after recess, my class is going to the Scholastic book fair in the media center and there is a TV on a cart in the front of the classroom. I totally bet we are watching "Magic School Bus."

I put my backpack in the cabinets and grab my Spacemaker box from the part of my shelf that has my classroom number labeled on it. My morning took a bad turn when I dropped the Spacemaker, and my precious rainbow erasers, colored pencils and jumbo markers flew everywhere. The boy who sits next to me helped me pick it all up, though, and even told me he'd trade me a blue eraser for a pink one. He says pink is a gross color, so of course, I agreed. Solid deal; exchange will take place after recess.

We start the day by writing our weekly spelling words in our black and white composition notebooks. Then my teacher turns on the movie. Pretty disappointed to see it wasn't "Magic School Bus," but it's OK because it is "Bill Nye The Science Guy" instead. This is my first year watching his movies; he's a funny guy. He's more of a fifth and sixth grade class kind of a guy, so we all felt really cool getting to watch his movie on matter in the third grade. After the movie, we work on some cursive, sing the continent song we learned last week and practice putting commas in sentences. I'm starting to get a little stressed. I just want to feed my Webkinz for the day!

We then get into a single file line, placing one finger over our mouth and holding another in the air and take a walk through the hallway to wash our hands before lunch. The boys at the end of the line were whispering to each other. I bet they will be in a lot of trouble later. I'm really excited today because it is chicken nugget day. I got milk and a vanilla ice cream, as well. After my nuggets, I went straight to my ice cream. Mom would be so mad. I ate my yummy ice cream with the tiny wooden stick. Then before I knew it, it was recess time. The boys were all playing wall ball and kickball, and Tommy hit Jacob too hard, so he had to go inside. The girls from my class and another class had a monkey bar competition. Not to be mean and brag, but I did pretty well. The girl, Sarah, from my class with the sparkly red take home folder did pretty well, too.

We go back inside and spend the rest of the day reading our chapter books and having circle story time. I get to sniff some of my teachers Mr. Sketch markers. I love them – my favorites are grape and blueberry. Then, before I know it, I am back on the bus. What a tiring day! At home, I have a little snack as usual and turn on Disney channel. "Recess" is on as usual. I can't wait for the new episode of "That's So Raven" that's coming on tonight.

Finally, the time has come – time to see my best friend. Sally, my piglet Webkinz, has been so hungry all day, but I'm running low on kinzcash because I bought a ton of stuff for her cool bedroom. Looks like I'm going to have to go to the arcade and play some cash cow to earn food money. I play outside with my friends after dinner. We play with chalk and my skipit and also ride our bikes. Maddie ran her razor scooter into the back of my ankle, though, so I had to run home to throw on some gel bandaids. It hurt really bad. The new episode of "That's So Raven" was really good. Cory sold soda in milk cartons at school to make money! He's so funny. After my bath, I jumped into my Mary-Kate and Ashley pajamas and wrote in my Lisa Frank journal before bed. Can't wait to wake up and do it all again tomorrow.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
