It's here, the best month of the year (OK, that's just my opinion). Classes start soon and the summer heat turns into cool days and nights. I don't know about you, but August is my absolute favorite month of the year. Here are my five reasons why.
1. Classes resume
OK, if you have been keeping up with my most recent articles or know me pretty well, you know I don't stop classes in the summer. However, I stop spending 85 percent of my time on campus. There is something about NDSU's campus that gets me going before classes. Whether I'm sipping coffee in the union or cramming for tests in the library, I enjoy spending my time on campus. Even more than that, I love seeing all the familiar faces. Plus, at the beginning of the school year, I'm always extremely motivated to get good grades. This usually puts me at the right start with my grades so when I forget about an assignment or oversleep one day, I don't freak out about taking the late grade.
2. I can get out of the house more
When classes start, that means I actually have to get up and do something productive for the day. I no longer have an excuse to sit in my apartment all day eating junk food, watching Netflix and playing with my cats.
3. Hot days and cool nights
I'm not the type of person to care how hot it is outside. I will always wear sweatpants. The cool nights of August, however, give me the perfect excuse to be in complete comfort. No more weird looks and odd stares as I am walking around in my sweatpants on an 80-degree day, because by 5 o'clock, everyone in their short shorts and tank tops are freezing.
4. Birthdays
I know a ridiculous number of people who have birthdays in August. Although my wallet is usually hurting from all the birthday gifts, I really enjoy spending time with people I may not get to see very often. The nights out and dinners with family are a great way to have some much needed fun before the fall semester gets too crazy.
5. Clothes on clearance
As stores start to prepare for fall lines and whatnot, they start to clear the shelves of summer clothes and the older designs. It's great for people who love to bargain shop. You can find some pretty cute tops to wear for the last few weeks of nice weather and you also have something newer for next summer. Plus, those 60 and 75 percent off tickets are perfect for a broke college student!
