Fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events, GET EXCITED!! If you didn't already know, a Netflix show is coming out based on the books, with Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf... What could be better? This season of the show is set to have eight episodes (not nearly enough in my opinion, but I'll take it).
If you have no idea what I'm talking about and still clicked on this article, props to you, and here's a short explanation:
A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children's book series created in the mid-2000s that developed a cult following (can you say that when the followers were mostly children?) quickly, that has lasted to this day. Evidence of this is the Netflix series that is scheduled to be released in January of next year. And all of this is in spite of the disturbingly twisted nature of the novels, especially when compared to other series' meant for children.
As for a synopsis of the collection for those of you who haven't read the books at this point, this is essentially how it goes. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are the Baudelaire siblings whose parents have just died in a fire that's completely destroyed their once stately mansion. Cheery, I know. So the story starts there, and the children are placed into the care of a distant relative, Count Olaf (again, played by Neil Patrick Harris in the upcoming show). He's evil, predictably, and they go through an incredibly taxing series of events--get it? ;)--to attempt to escape his grasp. The series chronicles Violet, Klaus, and Sunny through all different means of misfortune for 13 books, a number I feel is fitting. SO, if you haven't read them yet, get caught up before January. They're for children so the fact that there are 13 books shouldn't be too daunting; but, the story also contains enough adult themes and a witty tone to keep it captivating for an older audience.
Stans, listen up:
Yes, we already have the movie which is somewhat polarizing to fans of the books. I personally appreciate Jim Carrey's portrayal of Olaf, although it's almost inexcusable that three books were fit into one movie--lots of important plot points were left out. This is why the show is so exciting! Instead of one movie containing three books, we're now getting an entire Netflix series on the books. I can't wait to see some of my favorite moments come to life.
A teaser for the show came out earlier today:
Whether you're already obsessed and want to freshen up, or you have no idea what I'm talking about, get caught up in time for the January 13th, 2017 premiere!
