The Things I Wish I Would've Known

As I look back into the past, I think about all the new experiences I went through at the age of fifteen. I was naive, of course. I thought that the entire world would never turn its back on me. It's so strange thinking how your life can change under a second. This is coming from someone who has a mother that gives me advice and comforts me whenever I need it. At the so famous age of fifteen, you suddenly think that everything is nice and that you will never go through any troubles. Like I stated before, I did have someone to talk to. But even then, you don’t really listen to the warnings because all you want to do is grow up and start seeing the world. Well our world isn’t as pretty as we think it is. I wish someone would have told me not to fall so quickly for someone at an age that is so ridiculously young. I wish someone would have warned me that the friends you had then, would no longer be part of your life at eighteen. I wish someone would have told me that everything happens for a reason and there’s no need to be obsessed over the past. And I also really wish someone would have told me that time really does heal everything. You simply need the patience and strength to push it away and keep moving forward. I think the age of fifteen is meant to sound innocent. It’s when you stop being a child but you start to be a teenager as well. It’s also meant to show you the world as it is and not become such a huge lie to you. At the age of eighteen, I have realized that life is definitely something to look forward to. You soon realize that even though you don’t know what the future holds, you feel excited about it anyways. At this point in my life, I can definitely say that I’m scared to know what’s coming next. One of my biggest fears is knowing that I could fail at becoming the kind of writer I want to be. I know the work and risks I have to go through to be where I wish to be. But I know it’s my passion because of how badly I want it. You can’t sit there and keep hoping for it either. You literally have to chase after it even if it turns out to be unfit for you. From age fifteen to eighteen, that’s three years of growth. You change physically, mentally, and spiritually. I learned what was right and what was wrong. I knew myself at seventeen and I know what I want now. As the person I am today, I have a timeline in my life. The plan that I have created for myself is because of experiences and dreams. It came along with bruises, scars, tears, happiness, memories, laughter, and change. That’s what I wish someone would have told me at age fifteen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
