"They're half my soul and half my heart. Without my sisters, I'd fall apart."
I used to find cheesy sayings like this overused and annoying. It wasn't until I joined a sorority that I began to understand the reason people love these kinds of sayings.Â
Growing up as an only child, I did not understand the bond of sisters. It was a concept that I could never understand since I didn't have one. I was always jealous of people with sisters! Since becoming a part of my chapter, I've learned what sisterhood is - I now have nearly 200 sisters. My sisters aren't just women that I can go to when I'm bored or need help. They're women that I can grow with. My ASA sisters have taught me so much about myself in the short months I've been a part of the organization.Â
My sisters are a huge reason why I love ASA, but what really drew me to it was the values. Our open motto, "Aspire, Seek, Attain." reminds me that everyday is a new day to go out and try my best (even that sounds cheesy, but it's true). Our sisterhood strives to better ourselves and the world around us. In my bedroom, I have a painting with our motto to remind me every morning to live out ASA's values. My sisterhood reminds me to push myself and those around me to be better people. I can't imagine going back to my life before I had them.Â
Below are some photos of my amazing sisters and how we live our open motto everyday! I might have included a shout-out to my beautiful Greek family as well!
