So far as a writer for Odyssey I've done mostly serious articles with something I'm passionate about. That is not about to change. Do not take the title for granted, ladies and gents. This is a massive deal. Guys now have a clothing option equivalent to girls and leggings! I don't know why all guys don't wear them honestly, but if you don't want comfy pants for all occasions, you do you. Here's why I put leggings and joggers on the same level:
1. The comfort level is 100.
To be fair, I've never worn women's leggings, but there's no way they aren't the most comfortable things on Earth. They're basically a second skin made from cotton or a spandex type material. When considering the other options of denim, which is basically a starchy burlap sack, or khakis (equally awful), there's no comparison. The makers of joggers for men basically took some leggings, made them have a baby with some baggy dude sweatpants and bada-bing-bada-boom we have joggers.
2. Not all guys can fully rock joggers; not all girls can fully rock leggings.
This is pretty self-explanatory. Joggers and leggings can accentuate certain things. In some cases, it's good, and others, not so much.
3. Both can be worn on more formal occasions or for binge-watching and binge-eating. Whatever suits your fancy.
This may be one area where joggers can surpass leggings. Leggings for girls are acceptable on most occasions except any that are considered very dressy. Joggers also fit in most categories, but they can even be put in the "formal" category. Shout out to Tony Conrad for illustrating my point to perfection:
Next time you want to get dunked on then have me invest your money for you, hit me up. I'll bring my three piece suit.
4. You can sport whatever kicks you want all the time.
Leggings let you choose any footwear and match. Boots? Let's do it. Chuck Taylors? Perfection. House slippers? If you're feeling that, go for it. Same goes with joggers; for my stretch cotton khaki joggers, I can dress them up with some desert boots or wingtips, or pull a more casual look with Vans or Air Max's. This also applies to my active joggers. They work on the street, at the gym or wherever. Throw some sneakers or boots with them and you're good to go.
5. Both joggers and leggings have successfully reengineered jeans.
Of course we all have heard of "jeggings." This is where some brilliant designer basically made leggings out of some mystery stretch denim. This makes it easier for women to still dress up with dark jeans and be crazy comfy at the same time. As in the above picture, the time has come for men as well. We can now have the style of jeans in an improved form.
6. Never again do we need to worry about our pant length.
How annoying is it to try to find the right length of jeans or khakis? Either they're too short and just look goofy, or they're too long and either bunch up or drag the ground and fray. No longer do we have the 2004 style of baggy, frayed bootcut jeans.
7. They simply look awesome.
OK, of course this will sound like such a guy thing to say, but leggings look so much better than some of the other options that girls choose, like Norts (Nike shorts). That's not to go without saying joggers look so much better than other men's choices as well. Baggy jeans, sweatpants and any other sloppy choices we make as guys are a thing of the past. Also, with the level of versatility they have, is not hard to be stylish with each.
In conclusion, if you're a guy reading this, get some joggers already! It's never too late to improve your wardrobe. If you're a lady, look out for dudes in joggers and remember how awesome we feel when we show them off.
