Dear Little Ones,
Lucky enough for me, your parents were a lot older than I was growing up. You're probably wondering why that's lucky for me, because I had no one to play with right? Wrong. I was lucky that they were so much older because I got blessed with you so much sooner.
Becoming an Aunt at the young age of ten was the most wonderful and terrifying thing as the same time. You didn't always make it the easiest on me, in fact, you made it pretty hard sometimes (or so I thought). Being a kid myself, you all made me grow up pretty fast, because all of you wanted to follow in my footsteps. So every green bean or asparagus that I absolutely hated but your parents wanted you to try, I had to scarf down like it was the greatest thing ever! (Don't worry, I'll be getting you back when you become the role model to my future kids) Although I might have made that sound like being an Aunt is the worst, it's actually the best thing that has ever happened to me. You all are the best gift I could have ever received.
As your Aunt I promise to try to understand you when your parents can't. I promise to listen when it feels like no one else will, and I promise to have your back no matter the circumstances and stand in your corner no matter the cost. You all were my first loves and you have taught me more lessons in life than any book or teacher ever could have.
I promise to tell you the truth, even when it's not what you want to hear. Your friends will sugar coat things, that's what they're there for. And when you want to hear the real truth, I'll give it to you. Sometimes hearing what you don't want to hear, is the best thing for you. I promise that you're going to get mad at me sometimes and that it's going to be okay. I promise to be your secret keeper, to have talks that you feel like you can't have with mom and dad. I'll be your guide through as much as I can, but I can't promise that I won't ask your parents for advice.
I also promise you that your parents aren't as dumb as you think. Crazy right? Sometimes (most of the time), they do know what they're talking about. What I ask of you, is that you take time to listen to them. And since I know you won't, I ask that you at least listen to me when I enforce what they say. Your parents can be a pain in the butt, trust me, I lived with one of your parents at one point, and I know how you feel. But as dumb as you think they are, they're not. As uncool as you think they may seem, they're just looking out for you. Listen to them, and promise me that you never ever think they don't love you because their love for you is more than you will ever be able to comprehend.
There are thousands more promises I could make to you on this article, but the only one that matters is this. As your Aunt, I promise to love you unconditionally, through the good times, and the not so good times. I promise to cheer you on, and to be there when you're upset. Becoming an Aunt at the age of ten was hard, but also it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. You little crazy kids are my inspiration, never lose your spunk!
Love you times a billion,
Aunt Kimmy
