Throughout our entire life, we are constantly told that being a doctor, lawyer, or engineer is the best way to go because of the pay that most of them achieve after years of schooling. It is very rare in society to hear about how being an artist of any kind is important to society, but it is just as important as the "high-paying" jobs.
Artists are some of the bravest people out there. They are relying completely on their passions, dreams, and talents, and not just schooling. Being an artist means having to sell what makes you special even when it takes forever to finally get recognized for hard work. Instead of going through ten extra years of schooling, artists are out there trying to make a living simply because they are doing what they love, no matter what it takes. There is not many careers that take a more confident and hard-working group of people.
I can name many stories I have heard, or personal experiences that have to do with a performer, musician, or visual artist who changes lives and can even save them through their expressions. Artists are using their creativity and heart for not only themselves, but others even more. They are born to inspire and to genuinely and authentically change lives. Because of this, it is absolutely ridiculous that they are not considered as important in the work force.
Many do not see the hard work and dedication that goes behind art and hours of practice. There is so much competition out there, and it takes a lot of willpower to not drop it all together. But the community of fellow artists is what keeps everybody going. Mostly everyone who is artistic or creative supports the next. Artists are the most sensitive people you'll ever meet, and you won't meet a group of people with bigger hearts.
It is as simple as this: nobody should feel like what they love is not important just because of a paycheck. Artists have to remind themselves of this everyday while having to work multiple jobs and killing themselves of exhaustion simply because they want to pursue the talents God gave them.
If somebody tells you they want to be a musician, actor, dancer, or sculptor, support them. Don't tell them that they are going to do just as great as a business person. It is very difficult hearing people talk down to majors that are fine arts related. Support everybody if they are truly doing something for themselves and for the right reasons. After all, there is way too much judgement in this world anyway. So let somebody do what they love, no matter how crazy it may sound to you.
If you are reading this and you are an artist, thank you. You are doing a wonderful job out there, and you are changing lives. Do not let anyone's opinion change the way you feel about what is taking control over your heart. You are going to achieve the unimaginable. You are important too.
