The key to this technique can be put into three simple words:
Don't do it.
It's something that I find myself doing most of the time, slowly waiting for the deadlines to take me as I am, only to leave me with this weird mix of guilt and pride. I find it that people can closely relate with procrastinating, as it becomes very easy to master in a very accidental way. No, it is not both a blessing and a curse, but both a curse and a curse. You think it's a good idea until you find yourself sitting there with this sense of dread, slowly building day by day, waiting until that nagging feeling moves from your head to your stomach. That's when you know you're in trouble.
But at the same time, when you're in this situation, you get this weird rush of adrenaline that turns your world upside down. Next thing you know is you're cranking out a paper at almost 100 words per minute, with your shoulders cramping awkwardly. Sometimes you get to even watch the sun rise (if you're lucky). And in the final stretch, you brew that dark coffee that match the color of the bags underneath your eyes, get ready for your class, and staple that paper with the most satisfying 'click' you've heard in a while.
But in reality, you're just as frazzled as you were three weeks ago, cranking out yet another paper that you put off until 22 hours and 11 minutes before the deadline. There's nothing else you can so, as you begrudgingly give up your sorry excuse of a paper. You don't think it's your fault, but it is. Trust me. I'm an expert.
Procrastination is a masochistic game that many people adhere to, stuck in this weird cycle of no sleep and caffeine. You even get this feeling somewhere along the line you grow a little bit and feel a little more adult-y than you did an hour ago. Somewhat like a rite of passage into adulthood, and knowing you gave it your 200% within a few hours. But the feeling of clacking away at the keyboard for a solid three hours makes it worth it when you're crawling to bed at the butt-crack of dawn.
Almost.
Did I mention to not do it?
