Art Is Everywhere, Art Is Everything

Art is art.

Art Is Everywhere, Art Is Everything

"Your surroundings, home, personal care, pets, clothing and body are all reflections of how you see and express yourself." - Dr. Christiane Northrup

In a world of social media where the idea of beauty and perfection is laid so neatly, it can be considered a form of protest to truly be yourself. Unlike what you hear, you don't have to be as “out there” as any political activists voicing their opinion at the top of their lungs.

You don’t have to be an activist, actress or comedian in order to express any part of yourself. If you’re shy like me, you’re more subtle about your deepest fears, concerns and thoughts.

As the quote above states, there are simply things that speak for themselves.

Many people will tell you that any form of art is a great way to express yourself.

Question: what is art? Is it a painting? A poem? A naked body? Graffiti?

Art is subjective in nature and definition and that is the great thing about it.

If someone says you don't make art simply because their definition of art is different from yours, they don’t know what art is.

Knowing that art is a form of expression makes it easier to start making art, if you’re not making art already. When I say this, I mean if you are not getting rid of blockages and expressing your inner self. Take a second to reflect on your emotions, thoughts, feelings and experiences. You can do this by meditating, doing yoga or whatever your idea of grounding yourself is. This will clear your mind for the moment and let you create art with an open mind.

Once your mind is clear, you may approach any interests or passions you have with the intent of conveying your message. If you do not have any clear interests, you can start looking. Going online and searching community events or classes is a great, cheap way to search for a passion.

Once art is made public, there may be many people who feel understanding and as though they are not alone. This is a great way to spread good vibes, which typically makes people feel better. Remember that you do not need public admiration or recognition to make “real” art. Art is defined by the artist, and everyone can be an artist.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
