Ariana Grade made her debut in the entertainment industry as Cat on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious,” and now Grande is known worldwide as a talented singer. Starting a career on Nickelodeon lead Ariana Grande to become a role model for many young girls and boys around the world, and the numbers have increased as her career has become more successful.
Ariana has been touring around the United States on The Honeymoon tour since February of this year. Grande returned to Los Angles on her break between the two sections of her tour for some leisure time with her new backup-dancer boyfriend. While on hiatus from the tour, Grande and her boyfriend decided to play a little “innocent” game of truth or dare in the donut shop, Wolfee Donuts of California. This consisted of the couple each licking multiple donuts that were presented on display. Not only were there bystanders observing the whole fiasco, but there were also security cameras that had a perfect view of the incident -- and a video was released by TMZ.
The security camera caught more than just the disgusting exchange of germs. According to TMZ, as the employee working the counter at Wolfee Donuts showed Ariana and her boyfriend a tray of new donuts, Grande proceeded to say “What the **** is that? I hate Americans. I hate America, that’s disgusting.”
One of the main questions raised on social media has been if Grande was born in another country due to her statement. Even though Grande is of Italian descent, she was born in Florida, leaving many followers of the scandal confused as to why she made that statement.
After the security camera footage was released, the scandal was discussed on Twitter, Facebook and every other social media source you can think of. Ariana Grande could do nothing, but apologize for her actions. Grande first apologizes over Twitter, saying it was in private, and was interpreted into the wrong meaning. Then she touched on the subject of how she advocates healthy eating in America, “The fact that the United States has one of the highest childhood obesity rates in the world frustrates me,” Grande stated, explaining the hate comments.
If that apology wasn’t enough for you, Ariana Grande also posted a video on her YouTube channel apologizing further, now receiving more than two million views. Grande claimed in the YouTube video that she felt her first apology wasn’t enough, and she missed her opportunity to express how she was feeling.
I thought it was smart that Grande posted a video of herself speaking from the heart and apologizing. When was the last time you saw a celebrity personally speaking about a problem they created? Usually, there is a statement sent to E! News or People Magazine from the celebrity’s publicist apologizing when there is a scandal happening in the media.
Ariana made it clear that she learned from her mistakes, “I’m 22 years-old, I’m human, I’ve got a lot to learn, I make mistakes and that’s how I’m going to learn. I’m going to learn by messing up and that’s how we grow,” she said.
Ariana knows she has to use these mistakes as a platform to learn, grow and become better. We have all had that one day in our lives where we make a small mistake, and like Ariana said, “shoved our faces into a pillow and disappear,” but we just have to keep moving and not make the same mistake again.
