Ah, New York City. The lights, the sights and the traffic. As one of the biggest cities in the world, NYC is filled with so many great things, like the original Cronut, $1 slices of pizza and more delicious bagels than you could eat in a lifetime. But there are downsides to living in such a popular city (crowded trains, odd smells, and thousands of tourists, just to name a few).
Without all that makes up New York City, New Yorkers would be much more different than they are today. As a native of New York City, I have notice that there are certain traits that only real New Yorkers have.
1. Your “walk” is considered a jog to anyone who isn’t from NYC.
Because you are constantly surrounded by so many people, developing the ability to walk as fast as the speed of light is practically a necessity. Google Maps said it'll be a 10-minute walk to that amazing bakery Downtown? You'll be there in no more than six.
2. You don’t bat an eyelash at the weird things people do on trains.
You've seen it all. From short dance routines to someone preaching about the end of the world, there isn't much room for surprises while riding the subway.
3. You swear that you know the best bagel place in your neighborhood (and possibly the world).
If you're a native New Yorker, you take your bagels seriously -- very seriously. There's nothing worse than a bagel that's too soft or too hard, or just plain awful. Through years of trial and error, you knowthat your favorite bagel store is the best bagel store. Anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong.
4. You avoid Times Square at all costs.
If you want to go somewhere with bright, flashing lights and very little room to breathe, Times Square is the place to be! Theres about 8.5 million people living in New York City, and it seems as though they're all in Times Square.
