We live among them, walk among them, even live with them. Narcissists can vary from the average "nice guy" to the typical trench coat wearing covert. Narcissists use a technique called gaslighting, a way of trying to manipulate one psychologically by questioning their sanity. Here is a list of things that are typical for narcissists to say when they are gaslighting you.

  1. You’re crazy, bipolar, delusional.
  2. I know what you’re thinking, I know why you did that.
  3. I never said that.
  4. I never did that.
  5. You’re lying.
  6. Here we go again.
  7. You’re emotionally unstable.
  8. See! You can’t even hold a conversation without getting angry. (after they gave you legitimate case to be upset).
  9. I was busy.
  10. It’s always something with you.
  11. You’re so mean, you’re always accusing me.
  12. No wonder (insert name here) has a problem with you.
  13. You’re being irrational.
  14. You’re always making things up in your head.
  15. You’re just like your mother.
  16. That’s not my fault.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
