Have you ever seen a movie, or read a book, where the plot ruins all the characters’ lives so badly all you can wonder is, “How will it end?”
Publications such as "Gone Girl" or "The Hunger Games" series where every little thing that could go wrong in the lives, or whole world, of the characters goes wrong that there’s no turning back always leave me asking myself this question.
Hearing all the news of the terror in today’s world has me wondering the same thing.
Every day there’s some new story about police brutality, or a mass shooting, or a terrorist attack. The news keeps building, with it bringing anger and frustration and conflicting opinions. Social media is flooded with #BlackLivesMatter versus #AllLivesMatter, and arguments about which religions are bad versus which ones are superior. All these disagreements are breeding more anger, and hate, between citizens all throughout the country.
In just a few weeks, Americans have been able to not only celebrate our beloved home of the brave, but also terrorize each other for loving who they choose, feud about human equality, and kill each other simply for falling under certain categories. Home of the brave is a fitting name, because you really need to have that courage in order to be living here in today’s current state.
There is so much hate circulating through our country. So many people are constantly arguing their opinions, and fissures and flames are stemming from each sour word shared amongst commentators.
Each day that passes adds more murders to the list. More protests to stop the murders. More violence to stop the protests. More anger at the violence and protests and murders. More of a desire to come to a solution. The problem is, though, we can’t come to a solution if we keep fighting like this. We need to come together, not only as a country, but as a species, and realize that the constant fury between differing sides isn’t going to make life any better for anyone. I don’t want to know how much more blood must be spilled, or how many lives must be turned inside out, or how many families have to be broken, before we end the violence amongst each other.
I’m not going to sit behind my keyboard and preach my opinions, but it is 2016 and times are different now. At this point, we should have enough common sense to understand that just because someone has a different skin color doesn’t make them less of a person. Racial discrimination needed to end a long time ago, and the only way it’ll stop is if we can actually realize we’re all humans, and, even with differences, we were all created equal. We should have enough common sense to realize that we can’t force anyone to follow by the same rules in which we live. If you personally feel as if something is morally wrong, or even a sin, then don’t do that action, but it isn’t your job to tell other people they can’t. Simple as that. We should have enough common sense to realize that violence isn’t the answer, and constantly fighting each other won’t lead to any solution. We don’t all have to love one another, but if we open our minds, and embrace the differences we have, life will go much more smoothly.
With all the problems going on in our country these days I can honestly say it scares me to live here. After everything that has occurred, it’s time to forget about which side or argument is the right one, and come together to fix a problem rooted deeply within our nation. I keep asking myself, “How will it end?” and I don’t want the answer to that question to involve any more lives lost.
