There are many questions in life that often go unanswered. Is God real? Is the idea of love and "soulmates" simply invented to sell Hallmark cards and movie tickets? Am I going to college for the right reasons, or just because I was always told I was supposed to? These questions often take a lifetime to work through. They gnaw at us in the wee hours of the night. They bounce around our minds ceaselessly, never allowing us to find peace within ourselves. These questions are a part of life. We all have them, and we can do nothing but accept that we will never have a solution for them. There is one question, however, that I refuse to leave unanswered. This question weighs heavily on my shoulders. It distracts me during class, and always finds a way into my mind no matter how badly I want to forget it. No matter how hard I try, every waking second I can't keep from asking myself, "Are hot dogs sandwiches?"

To answer this, we must first ask- what defines a sandwich? The dictionary definition is simply "two pieces of bread with filling." Hot dogs are, of course, a wiener that has been inserted into 1 piece of bread that has been split. Therefore, it isn't really a sandwich, right? I disagree.

My first point is about the 2 pieces of bread. Before you can have 2 pieces of bread, you must first have 1 piece of bread. You then separate it in order to create your sandwich. A hot dog bun can easily be split in 2, it's just more convenient to keep the pieces connected so that your wiener and toppings don't slip through. Its reasonable to claim, then, that the amount of bread pieces is not relevant, as long as the fillings of the sandwich is somehow within bread.

My second argument against the dictionary definition, is the restaurant known as Subway. Subway sandwiches are essentially made on giant hot dog buns- a long roll/bun thing that has been split, but is still almost always connected. Is the dictionary really claiming that Subway isn't selling sandwiches? If that is true, is Subway actually just selling giant hot dogs but with meat other than wieners? What a ridiculous claim!

Therefore, after extensive research and years of thought, and based off my previous definition of a sandwich being "filling and stuff within some amount of bread," I have determined that hot dogs, are in fact sandwiches. You may rest peacefully tonight.

Next weeek: Are cupcakes pie???

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
